KFAN Summer Golf Tour, Glendale

KFAN Summer Golf Tour

Stop 5 - Glendale Golf Course

With a central location and a layout that allows you to walk off the course feeling good about your golf game, Glendale Golf Course is an attractive option for any golfer.

Glendale is located on 2100 S just east of Redwood Road, and offers a large driving range plus two different putting greens if you don’t have time to play a round, but do want to get some work in on your game.

If you are looking to get out and play though, Glendale will give you every opportunity to feel good about your game.  The course itself is a wide open run that has few hazards in which a player would have trouble finding an errant shot or recovering out of.  You can get a little wayward with a shot and still score well.

It’s not however “easy”.  There is water on some of the holes that will claim some of the off line shots.  Some holes dare you to be aggressive only to mock you when you do.  The par 4 2nd and 3rd holes are a good example of this.  Both are shorter par 4s that some of the big stick may want to take a shot at, but I’d recommend playing smart instead.  On 2 it dog legs right with plenty of fairway to hit to that would give you a great line into the green, but if you want to cut the corner and think you can hit over a couple of bunkers and trees you can get close to the green.  But beware, the bunkers on that path will make that difficult and if you are short you’ll be in the midst of trees.

The 3rd is even more tempting from the tee.  A very short par 4, easily reachable, but the green from the angle of the tee is only about 10-yards wide and nearly impossible to hold with marsh in front and trees behind.  In other words, if you miss you looking at a possible bogey at least.  The smart play is to hit to the ample fairway to the right of the green and approach the long, skinny, multi-tiered green from that angle.

Glendale is one of the 8 courses (Forest Dale, Bonneville, Jordan River Par 3, Mountain Dell, Nibley Park, and Wingpointe) ran by Salt Lake City. This season Salt Lake City is offering golfers a Golf LoyalTee Discount Card that gives you up to 20% off of green fees and allows you to build up reward points that will let you earn rewards like range balls, and discounts in the pro shops. For more info on the Loyaltee Discount Card or any of the Salt Lake City Courses go to www.slc-golf.com or call 801-485-7730.
